Move, rotate and scale
Move, rotate and scale by exact typed values, make copies and arrays, paste in place on another level, and lock to an axis.
Move, Rotate and Scale work as in SketchUp: pick points that snap to the model, or type exact values in the Measurements box at the bottom right of the view. Each move, copy, array and paste is one undo step.
Select what to change
Click an object to select it. Shift-click adds or removes one. Drag over the model to select by rectangle: left to right takes what's wholly inside, right to left takes whatever the box touches.
Move something
- Select it and press
M, or choose Edit → Move or copy. - Click a base point. It snaps to corners, edges and wall ends.
- Click where that point should go.
Instead of the second click, type a distance and press Enter to move that far along the line you're pointing: 3500mm, 3.5m or 12' 6". A plain number is metres in a metric project and feet in an imperial one. Other ways to type a move:
2<90: 2 m at 90°, counter-clockwise from east.2,0: 2 m east and 0 north, with no base point needed. Add a third value to go up:0,0,0.9.<x,y,z>moves by that much and[x,y,z]moves the base point to that exact place, as in SketchUp.
Walls you move together stay joined, and walls left behind stretch to follow. A door or window moves along its wall.
Lock to an axis
While you pick points, press the right arrow to lock east–west (red), the left arrow for north–south (green) or the up arrow for vertical (blue). Press the down arrow to lock parallel or perpendicular to the edge you last passed over. Press the same key again to let go. Holding Shift locks whatever direction the inference is showing.
Make copies and arrays
Press Ctrl (Option on a Mac) while moving, or click Make copies in the Move bar, to copy instead of move. Then, right after the copy:
- Type
5xand pressEnterfor five copies, each that distance apart. - Type
/4and pressEnterto spread four copies evenly over that distance.
The array replaces the single copy.
Rotate something
- Select it and press
Q, or choose Edit → Rotate or copy round. - Click the centre to turn about.
- Click a start direction, then where it turns to. It turns in 15° steps, or exactly to a corner. Hold
Shiftto turn freely.
Or type an angle once the centre is down: 90 or -22.5, counter-clockwise seen from above. Ctrl (Option on a Mac) copies round. Right after a copy, 6x makes six copies that far apart round the centre, and /6 spreads six over the angle.
Scale something
- Select it and press
S, or choose Edit → Scale. - Click the point that stays put, then a point on what's scaling, then where that point should go.
Or type a factor, such as 1.5 or 150%, or the length it should end up from the fixed point, such as 3000mm. Scale works on shapes, solids, groups and imported models. Walls, doors, windows, furniture and other building elements keep their sizes in the Properties panel instead.
Retype the last value
Right after any move, rotation or scale, type a new value and press Enter. The operation is redone with that value, as one undo step.
Paste in place
Edit → Paste in place puts copies at the same plan position and height above the floor, on the active level. To repeat a layout on another storey:
- Select it and press Ctrl (⌘ on a Mac) and
C. - Switch to the other level.
- Press
Ctrl+V.
A door or window copied on its own is pasted into its wall, beside the original. Ctrl+D duplicates the selection in place, ready to move.
Use the gizmo
The Move, Rotate and Scale gizmo buttons in the toolbar put handles on the selected object, for dragging by eye. With grid snap on, rotation snaps to 15°. Furniture dragged near a wall backs onto it; hold Shift to move it freely.
To copy a whole storey, see Levels, roofs and stairs.
