Getting started
- Getting startedStart your first project from the welcome card, a template, the guided start or a sample, and choose metric or imperial units.
- Navigating the modelOrbit, pan and zoom with a mouse, trackpad or touch, jump to standard views, fly, and walk through your building.
- Coming from SketchUpSketchUp's mouse, keys and inference work in Stori3D. Here's how the tools map across and how to bring SketchUp models in.
- Saving and projectsHow your work is saved in the browser or in the cloud, what happens offline or in a conflict, version history, project files and deleting.
Modelling
- Walls and roomsDraw straight and curved walls to exact lengths, use snapping, set wall types, split walls, and get rooms with their areas and floors.
- Doors and windowsPlace doors and windows in walls, set their size, hinges and position, and open them to see how they work.
- Levels, roofs and stairsAdd and copy levels, put roofs on rooms, add stairs with landings or winders, and lay out structure, ramps, lifts and car parks.
- Shapes and push/pullDraw shapes and lines, push and pull them into solids, cut holes, sweep with Follow me, combine solids, and measure with guides.
- Move, rotate and scaleMove, rotate and scale by exact typed values, make copies and arrays, paste in place on another level, and lock to an axis.
- Groups, components and tagsGroup objects, make components whose copies update together, glue them to walls, lock them, and organise the model with tags and phases.
- Furniture and the libraryFind and place furniture, keep your own pieces, apply style palettes, set up lamps and downlights, and record product details.
- Materials and finishesPaint surfaces with real-size finishes, adjust tile size, rotation and position, make finishes from your own photos and add your own skies.
Drawings and sheets
- Plans, sections and elevationsOpen the 2D drawings, cut sections in plan and in 3D, and add dimensions, notes and tags at the scale you need.
- SheetsLay out plans, sections, views and schedules on titled sheets, draft on them, and export or present the set.
- Schedules and custom propertiesExport door, window, room and other schedules to Excel or CSV, take off quantities, and add your own fields to elements.
Visuals
- Site and sunPut your building on its real site, with a map, terrain and neighbours, then study sun, shadows and daylight.
- Styles and scenesChange how the model looks, from Solid to Sketch, tune edges, fog and watermarks, and save views that remember the display.
- RenderingMake realistic images and 360° panoramas, light a night scene with lamps, downlights and panels, and choose a sky.
- Tours, walking, VR and ARMake walkthrough tours to share or export as video, walk through the model yourself, and view it in VR or AR.
Sharing and review
Files and exchange
- ImportingBring in IFC, SketchUp and other 3D models, and trace over images, PDFs and DXF drawings as underlays.
- ExportingSend your model and drawings to BIM, CAD and 3D apps, and export images, video, sheets and schedules.
- Map coordinates (georeferencing)Put the project on a map grid such as MGA, the British National Grid or UTM, so IFC and DXF exports land where surveyors expect them.
- Files kept with a projectKeep surveys, briefs, consultants' models and photos with a cloud project, for everyone who can open it.

What’s new
25 Oct 2026
- Help centre: these articles, searchable, in Help → Help centre and on stori3d.com/help, with this list of what's new.
- Map coordinates: put the project on a national map grid (MGA, the British National Grid, UTM and others), and IFC and DXF exports carry eastings and northings. See Map coordinates.
- Files kept with a project: surveys, briefs, consultants' models and photos in Project → Files, for everyone who can open the project. See Files kept with a project.
- IES and area lights, 360° panoramas: downlights can take a built-in beam or a manufacturer's IES file, ceiling panels light a room as area lights, and Export image… makes 360° panoramas that open as photo spheres. See Rendering.
- Moving a finish's pattern: Move across and Move up shift a finish's texture on a surface, so tiles and boards start where you want them.
- Invite-only links: a share link can open only for the email addresses you invite, and each person gets the link by email. See Sharing and review.
- Present live: people on a share link can follow your view as you move round the model.
- Section planes: save named section planes at any angle, place them on a face, and let saved views remember which one cuts. See Plans, sections and elevations.
- Drafting and presenting on sheets: draw lines, shapes, text, leaders, revision clouds and symbols on sheets, on layers you can hide and lock; present the sheets full screen with a pen; and export sheets and the 3D model as DXF. See Sheets.
- Product details: record the real product a door, window or piece of furniture is, read it from manufacturers' files, and list each product once in a Products schedule. See Schedules and custom properties.

- Styles and scenes: a Style panel for edge colours, depth cue, back edges, sketchy lines, fog and a watermark, with styles of your own; saved views now keep the whole style, and fast images export as TIFF, SVG or EPS. See Styles and scenes.
- Ambient occlusion and profiles: soft contact shadows and thicker silhouette outlines, in the viewport and in fast images.
- Match Photo: line the model up with a photo of the site and save it as a view that shows the photo over the model. See Site and sun.
- Views on sheets keep their style: saved views on sheets are drawn with their own style and section cut, can be drawn at a true scale, and any drawing can use a custom 1:N scale.
- Sun hours and daylight: map the hours of sun on the ground, roofs and windows for a day at the site, and check the daylight in each room.
- More SketchUp tools: select and edit a solid's faces and edges, cut holes with Push/pull, measure and set angles with the Protractor, draw loose edges and freehand, sort tags into folders with the Tag tool, and stand reference pictures up in 3D.
