Furniture and the library

Find and place furniture, keep your own pieces, apply style palettes, set up lamps and downlights, and record product details.

The Library panel holds everything you can add to a model: building elements, furniture, lighting, people and cars, materials and skies.

Find a piece

Open Library in the side rail and scroll to Furniture. Pick a category: Living, Dining, Bedroom, Kitchen, Bathroom, Office, Lighting, Decor, Outdoor & plants or People & cars. Or type in the search box to look across every category.

The library shows modern pieces by default. Click More styles to add Classic & vintage, Industrial, Oriental, or Props & novelties. Search always looks in every style, and pieces in styles you haven't turned on appear under In other styles.

The materials, skies and most of the models come from Poly Haven and ambientCG and are CC0. The rest are Stori3D originals, free to use and export in your work, commercial work included.

Place furniture

Click a piece, then move the pointer over the model. It follows the pointer on the active level, and near a wall it backs onto the wall and turns to face the room.

  • R turns it 90°, and Shift+R turns it 15°.
  • Hold Shift to place it freely, away from walls.
  • Each click places another. Press Esc or Done when you've finished.

Small items such as table lamps and plants stand on tables, desks and worktops. Ceiling lamps hang under the ceiling, and wall lights go on the wall.

Change a piece

Select it to set its width, depth and height in the Properties panel, within the sizes that piece can take. Models from the asset library have Smaller, Larger and Original size instead. Paint any part of a piece with a finish (see Materials and finishes).

Keep your own pieces

Select anything, such as an imported model, a group or a furnished corner, and click Save to my library in the Properties panel. It appears under Furniture → My library. Its menu has Rename… and Remove from library. When you're signed in, your library syncs to your account and follows you to other devices.

If you're in a team, the menu also has Share with your team. Shared pieces appear in the Team library for everyone in it. See Plans and support.

Apply a style palette

Under Style palettes, click Warm modern, Scandi, Japandi, Industrial or Coastal. Every built-in piece is recoloured by role (timber, fabric, stone, metal) in one step. Turn on Walls and floors too to repaint every room's walls and floor as well. Pieces you place afterwards come in the palette, and Undo puts everything back.

Light a room with lamps

Lamps contain a real light. Select one to see its Light settings:

  • On switches it on or off.
  • Brightness in lumens. 800 lm is a typical 60 W-equivalent bulb.
  • Colour temperature in kelvin. 2700 K is warm white, 4000 K neutral and 6500 K daylight.
  • Casts shadows gives softer, more realistic light, but slows the view with many lamps.

Add downlights and ceiling panels

Both are under Furniture → Lighting.

A Downlight is a spot shining down from the ceiling, 700 lm at 3000 K to start with. Set its Light spread to Narrow spot (20°), Spot (36°), Flood (60°) or Wide wash (100°). To use a manufacturer's photometry, choose Load an IES file… and pick an .ies file of up to 64 KB. It's kept with the project and named after the file. The view draws the beam, and Realistic renders light the room as the profile spreads it.

A Ceiling panel is an LED panel that lights from its whole face: 600 × 600 mm, 3400 lm at 4000 K to start with.

Record product details

Doors, windows, furniture, imported models, columns, beams, stairs and lifts have a Product section in the Properties panel. Fill in who makes it, the product's name and code, a link and notes. The details go into the Products schedule and IFC exports, and share links show the product and its link (notes stay private). See Schedules and properties.

Bring in your own models

Your models at the end of the Library has Import model, or drop files on the view. See Importing.
