Exporting

Send your model and drawings to BIM, CAD and 3D apps, and export images, video, sheets and schedules.

Stori3D exports to the formats architects and consultants use: IFC for BIM, DXF for CAD, PDF for drawing sets, glTF and USDZ for 3D and AR. This page lists each export and where to find it.

Export IFC for BIM

Choose File → Export → IFC 4 for BIM (.ifc). The file opens in Revit, Archicad, Solibri and BIM viewers.

  • The building is laid out as project, site, building and a storey per level, with its elevation.
  • Walls, slabs, roofs, stairs, columns, doors, windows and furniture keep their IFC classes. Rooms become spaces.
  • Typed walls carry their layers as a material layer set.
  • Each element carries base quantities and your custom properties. Product details go out as manufacturer information.
  • A property named after a classification system, such as Uniclass, becomes a classification reference.
  • Element ids stay the same between exports, so a consultant's model updates cleanly.
  • With a site, the file carries its latitude, longitude and true north; with map coordinates, its eastings, northings and grid too.

Export DXF

  • Plans, elevations and sections: in the 2D drawings view, choose Export → DXF for CAD (.dxf). The drawing comes out in metres, on CAD layers such as A-WALL and A-DIMS, with dimensions CAD can edit.
  • Sheets: in Sheets, press DXF, then This sheet as DXF or All sheets as DXF (a ZIP with a file for each sheet), in paper millimetres. See Sheets.
  • The 3D model: choose File → Export → 3D DXF (.dxf) for meshes in metres, on a layer for each kind of element.
  • In map coordinates: with map coordinates set, DXF in map coordinates (.dxf) (2D drawings, plans) and 3D DXF in map coordinates (.dxf) (File → Export) write eastings and northings instead.

DWG isn't available. Most CAD programs open DXF.

Export PDF drawings

  • A drawing set: in Sheets, press Export PDF for every sheet in one vector PDF, each page at its paper size.
  • One drawing: in the 2D drawings view, choose Export → Print or save as PDF….

You can also save the current sheet or drawing as SVG.

Export a 3D model

Under File → Export:

  • glTF binary (.glb): best for the web, AR and most 3D apps.
  • glTF (.gltf): the same as text.
  • USDZ (.usdz): for Apple's AR Quick Look.
  • Wavefront (.obj): the selected object only. Select what you want first.
  • STL binary (.stl) and STL text (.stl): for 3D printing.
  • PLY (.ply): for point cloud and scan tools.

Underlays are left out of 3D exports.

Export images

Choose File → Export image… for the current view, the overview or a saved view at screen or print sizes. Fast images can be PNG, TIFF, or vector SVG and EPS; realistic images are JPEG or PNG; 360° panoramas are photo-sphere JPEGs. See Rendering.

Export video

Open a tour in File → Walkthrough tours… and press Export video… for an MP4 in HD to 4K, square or upright. See Tours, walking, VR and AR.

Export schedules

Choose File → Schedules for an Excel workbook with every schedule, a single schedule, or As CSV. See Schedules and custom properties.

Save the whole project

File → Download project file… saves everything as a .stori3d.json file you can open again with File → Open project file…. See Saving and projects.
